THERE ARE EIGHT TITLE CONTENDERS – KLOPP

There are eight teams in the race for the Premier League title this season according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. He made this known during an interview with Jamie Redknapp who writes for the Daily Mail.

Jamie Redknapp is the son of renowned manager Harry Redknapp and he knows all about Liverpool having played for them in the 90s. The 47-year-old footballer turned pundit spent 11 years at Liverpool having joined them from Bournemouth. He was at Liverpool from 1991 to 2002. Jaime was part of the Liverpool team that won the FA Cup trophy, the UEFA Cup (now Europa League) and the Charity Shield (also known as the Community Shield) in 2001.

He also played for Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton where he called time on his successful career. Since his football career ended, Redknapp has been a columnist for the Daily Mail and a pundit on Sky Sports.

Redknapp asked Jurgen Klopp about the unusual Premier League season this term as clubs had a short pre-season due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The space between last season and this season was around four. In his response, Klopp said that winning the Premier League title this season would be more difficult than the other seasons including last season when he led his team to the league title triumph for the first time in three decades.

He believes that the traditional top six teams and two others will be in the picture for a league title at the end of the season. Leicester City are the current league leaders after winning six of the first eight games and Klopp would expect them to be in the title picture till the latter stages of the season. The eighth and final team could be Everton or even Aston Villa.

Everton led the league for some weeks before their campaign was derailed with three straight defeats, while Aston Villa have been impressive this season withbig wins over Arsenal and Liverpool.
